Sweep and dust mop
your floor regularly to remove dirt and grit that can damage your floors
finish.
Clean floors with a damp mop and
a clear, non sudsy, vinegar water, or no rinse cleaner.
- Do not
use
soap as it will leave a dull film.
- Do not
use
abrasive cleaners as they will
leave scratches and dull the finish.
- Do not
use oil soaps or other spray waxes
as they eventually cause a buildup
that will
hamper adhesion of future coats.
- Do not
use excessive
amounts of water when
mopping, as it will cause wood to swell and could
warp your floorboards. A well rung string mop or
slightly damp sponge works
the best.
Wood is a natural product and will expand
and contract with heat, cold and humidity. Keeping the temperature in your
home at a constant should not be a problem. However, if 45-65 degrees relative
humidity is not maintained you may experience shrinking when your floor
becomes excessively dry. This occurs during the winter months when the
furnace runs more and the house is closed up to the elements. You should
have your floors top coated with another layer of polyurethane finish every
3-5 years depending on wear.
